Defence Secretary visits Eastern Province Military camps
President's gratitude conveyed to soldiers:
WELIKANDA: Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa visited
military camps in the Eastern Province on Saturday.
The main aim of the visit was to convey President Mahinda Rajapaksa's
gratitude to the soldiers who excelled in the battles in Mavil Aru,
Sampur and Vakarai.
The Defence Secretary, accompanied by Chief of Defence Staff Air
Marshall Donald Perera, Army Commander Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka
and several other senior military officials first visited the Special
Forces Training School at Maduru Oya.
The Defence Secretary after receiving a ceremonial guard of honour
addressed the Army elites commending their bravery and commitments to
the duty.
The delegation later visited the Army 23 Division Headquarters at
Welikanda and reviewed the security situation in the area.
The Secretary Defence instructed to accelerate the clearing
operations in the area to commence prompt resettlement of the displaced
civilians. |
