'International Community keen on durable solution'

COLOMBO: The International community is keen to see a durable solution to the ethnic conflict without further delay, Minister of Higher Education Prof. Wiswa Warnapala said.

Addressing the press at the Ministry of Higher Education after meeting the USA Ambassador in Sri Lanka Robert Blake, the Minister said that the envoy drew his attention to the bilateral relations between the two countries. They also discussed the North-East conflict.

The Ambassador, he said highly appreciated the efforts of President Mahinda Rajapaksa to bring about a peaceful solution to the current conflict. The US Ambassador also showed particular interest in the All Party Representative Committee (APRC).

Since Minister Warnapala represents the APRC as the member of Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), the Ambassador was keen to know about the stand of the SLFP on power devolution.

He spoke of the need of expediting the process of power devolution.
