Ganegama 7/25 restricts Colts to 68

CRICKET: Akalanka Ganegama had a haul of seven wickets for 25 against CCC to drive NCC to a strong position on the first day of their Premier League Tournament-Super eight round match played at CCC ground yesterday.

Ganegama started his hunt by taking the wicket of Michael Vandort on the very first ball of the match. At the end of his 10 over bowling spell which included four maidens, the home team had faced a total collapse as none of the batsmen could make big scores. CCC first innings was limited to just 68 runs.

NCC replied with 181 for the loss of seven wickets at the close on the first day with W.L.P. Fernando contributing with a fine half century.

CCC: 68 (D.K. Ranaweera 12, J. Mubarak 12, E.S. Abeysinghe 12, W.C.A. Ganegama 7 for 25, A.A.C.E. Athukorala 2 for 18)

NCC: 181 for 7 (W.L.P. Fernando 58, H.W.U. Varuna 35, D.T. Kottehewa 6 n.o., M.D.G.M. Bandara 10 n.o., M.P.N.L.Perera 4 for 39, K.G.N. Randika 2 for 22)

Kaushal 55 n.o

Kaushal Lokuarachchi was 55 not out at close on the first day of the clash between Colts Cricket Club and Sinhalese Sports Club played at Colts Cricket Club Ground yesterday.

Batting first, the home team could only make 138 runs. J.M. Kulathunga (31) and M. Pushpakumara (30) tried to swell their total but as the other batsmen failed, Colts could not go for a bigger total. Ruchira Perera did a good job at the end of the batting order with 31 runs.

C.W. Vidanapathirana caused the biggest damage for them with 4 for 58. S.P. Karunanayake also had a three wicket haul for 32 runs.

SSC made 167 at the end of the day. Ruchira Perera bagged three wickets for 60 runs.

CCC: 138 (H.G.J.M. Kulatunga 31, M. Pushpakumara 30, P.D.R.L. Perera 31, C.W. Vidanapathirana 4 for 58, S.P. Karunanayake 3 for 32)

Anil shines for Moors

Moors SC met Ragama CC at the Moors SC ground where A. Rideegammanagedera was the star for Moors SC scoring 45 runs and taking two wickets for 26 runs.

Moors made 157 runs with Rideegammanagedera playing a long innings facing 100 bowls. P.A.S.S. Jeewantha took four wickets for 28 runs.

Ragama CC was in a strong position with a total of 109 runs for 3

wickets at the end of the first day. M.A. Sandaruwan was not out scoring 61 runs.

Moors SC: 157 (W.M.B. Perera 35, A. Rideegammanagedera 45, A.A.D.H. Nilantha 3 for 41, P.A.S.S. Jeewantha 4 for 28, W.D.D.S. Perera 3 for 35)

Ragama CC: 109 for 3 (M.A. Sandaruwan 61, R.S.S.S. de Zoysa 30, A. Rideegammanagedera 2 for 26)

Lanka scores a ton

Lanka de Silva scored a brilliant century (117) to guide Tamil Union to a massive total of 323 against Bloomfield at P. Saravanamuttu Stadium yesterday.

Two half centuries from Sandun Dias (76) and Mevan Fernando (56 n.o.) too helped swel their total.

With a record nine bowlers trying to bring down the TU batsmen, they ended at 323 losing only four wickets.

T. Lakshitha, M.P. Ranasinghe, G.S. Dissanayake and C.U. Jayasinghe had a wicket each.
