Army condemns LTTE’s murder of Poosari
COLOMBO: The Sri Lanka Army yesterday condemned the brutal
assassination of the Chief Poosari of the Santhiveli Pulleyar Kovil,
Batticaloa, Selliah Kurukkal Parameshwaran 63, by a marauding gang of
Tiger terrorists on wednesday night.
Army Commander Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka said terrorists
chased away from Verugal and Vakarai areas after their infiltration into
the Thoppigala jungle patches are directly responsible for this crime
and a number of other random terrorist attacks in the east.
“This barbaric and gruesome act of terrorism, perpetrated on a holy
priest of the Tamil community with no regard to the values of humanity,
once again clearly reinforces the need to have Hindu devotees as well as
all Tamil civilians in the east liberated from the horrendous clutches
of Tiger terrorism that has affected all the fabric of our civil society
across the country,’ the Commander said.
He said the Army, as done in the recent past, is determined to ensure
security of the civilians in the east, forcing those terrorists to face
the consequences of this barbaric act and continuing terror.
While denouncing non-ending LTTE terror objectives in the strongest
possible terms, the Army Commander reiterated his commitment to rid the
whole of Eastern Province of terrorism in the near future, and creation
of conducive-free environment which in turn will facilitate the smooth
co-existence and harmonious life for all peace-loving people,
irrespective of their ethnic and religious differences. |
