Sigiriya damsels not his cup of tea
KOTTE: Anura Bandaranaike told Parliament yesterday as
Minister of National Heritage he was merely reduced to watching the half
nude frescoes of the Sigiriya damsels while relaxing at the Sigiriya
Village Hotel.
As Minister of National Heritage he has no task to perform. (mona

Bandaranaike answered in the negative to a query by Opposition Leader
Ranil Wickremesinghe if he was given the Cultural Triangle, but said he
had the Galle Fort, National Museum, Archaeological Department, the
Archives and the Jaffna Library as subjects under his Ministry.
Making a special statement in Parliament over the phone-in death
threat issued to him, Bandaranaike queried if such a threat could be
made to a person of his stature what would be the position of an
ordinary mortal.
He however thanked President Mahinda Rajapaksa for initiating an
inquiry into the matter.
Bandaranaike said he thought it duty bound as a Senior Minister,
Deputy President of the SLFP and a former Speaker to bring this matter
to the public’s notice.
The caller said he (Bandaranaike) would be skinned alive and hung on
a lamp post in Attanagalle while the same fate would befall Minister
Mangala Samaraweera in Matara.
“I answered the man in choice language” he said. |
