Legal action to be taken against arrested journalists

COLOMBO: The Government will not hesitate to seek legal action against any person attempting to destroy the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, Cabinet Spokesman Media Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said.

Commenting on the arrest of three journalists by the Security Forces, the Minister said no person could be above the law of the land. Anyone acting against the country’s interests will be subject to the due legal processes.

The minister further said that the Security Forces had revealed that the three suspects had close connections with the LTTE. Some firearms were detected including T56 weapons, C4 explosives and pistols.

Further investigations are carried out by the security forces.

The Minister dismissed allegations that their confessions were not true. The suspects will be subjected to the legal process.
