Pradeep - Victoria's first caddies champion
GOLF: The Caddies Championship at the Victoria Golf & Country Resort
was held recently at the picturesque Victoria Course as a 36 hole medal
competition played over two days.
A caddy plays a vital part in the game of golf, enabling the smooth
play of the game and their local knowledge is a definite advantage to
the player.
The caddies' championship at Victoria enables the caddies to test
their local knowledge and ability and become better caddies in the
process with well over 40 caddies vying for honours in both ladies' and
gentlemen's divisions.
The day started off under fairly sunny conditions but the afternoon
play was threatened with a heavy downpour of rain.
Pradeep Gunasekara playing of a handicap of 7 returning an excellent
gross score of 158 over two days to become Victoria's first Caddies
Champion. Pradeep was closely followed on the leader board by 6
handicapper D M Jayantha who carded a gross 160 over the two rounds.
The gross leader board over two rounds stood as follows at the end of
play. Pradeep Gunasekara (158), D M Jayantha (160), Vijitha Bandara
(163), N Sundarababu (165), Samantha Rajapakse (169), Jayaprakash (172),
Logaraja (172), R Pathmanathan (173), Senduran (175), Susil Gunasekara
(176).
The Ladies championship gross division was dominated by 15
handicapper Rasika Ekanayake who carded a gross 177 to claim the crown.
Her sisiter, Menaka Ekanayake, hot on her heels with a gross 179 was
placed second and Damayanthi Ekanayake was placed third with a gross
189.

at the clubhouse.
