Waiting

"I've waiting to do," said the man in the street,
I'm waiting for Life to play trick or treat,
I crawled, as I waited to stand on my feet,
This waiting is something you just cannot beat.

"I wait for a bus, and I wait for a train,
I wait for the clouds and their promise of rain,
And sometimes I think I have waited in vain;
I waited to lose, and I waited to gain...

"How much of our lives is a part of this game-
This laggardly life and 'Waiting' its name;
I've risen to glory and fallen in shame;
More waiting to do - and I'm hardly to blame.

"Excuse me, young fellow, I've waiting to do,
I wait for the sky from grey to turn blue,
And don't ask me why, for I haven't a clue-
It's the sum of my days that I must review.

"My mother.... she waited for me to be born,
The farmer....he waits for the ripening corn,
The night, dark-eyed, waits for the coming of dawn,
And Time disappears like dew on the lawn.

"But now I have waiting I simply must do-
Waiting for freedom to burst into view,
I'm waiting to die and likewise should you,
This bouquet of life its petals to strew

"And then, my young fellow, my waiting is done;
I've breasted the tape and my hours are run;
And where, I can't say, will there shine a new sun,
My hours of waiting all turned into none!

"You think I'm being silly, but you also wait:
From cradle to grave - this you poor human state;
There's worth in this waiting, for sooner or late
There's no more to wait for, and happy your fate..."

I walked away, left him.... all filled up, my head
With realisation that flamed ruby red;
So true were his words no fear and no dread,
He's waiting, and knowing he soon will be dead!
