The Athletic Association of Sri Lanka (AASL) is looking for sponsors
to meet finances needed to grant cash incentives to Sri Lankan athletic
medallists at the 10th South Asian Games and their coaches. An official
of the AASL said yesterday they plan to offer cash incentives to SA
Games medallists.
A gold medallist would get Rs. 50,000/- a silver medallist Rs 25,000
and Rs. 15,000/- to those who have won bronze medals in athletics. But
half of those cash incentives would go to their respective coaches.
"We need both cash and kind sponsorships to support our medal winning
athletes. We hope all sports loving people and sports promoting firms
would come forward to support our poor but talented rural athletes who
have made the nation proud," he said. At the 10th South Asian Games, Sri
Lanka won 37 gold medals, of which the athletes contribution was 14, the
highest out of the 20 disciplines. |
