Observer - Caltex Rugby Contests:

Lewke, Kandy SC take both awards

AWARDS: In an all-Kandy affair, Kandy SC's number eight and former Royal College and Sri Lanka ruggerite Dushantha Lewke and Kandy Sports Club emerged winners in the Sunday Observer organised, Caltex Lubricants sponsored, Observer/Caltex Most Popular Ruggerite 2006 and Rugger Team 2006 competition at the end of the final count (13).

Lewke secured the top spot for the third consecutive year by votes as the competition turned out to be a one sided affair with very little response for the other clubs and players.

Dushantha Lewke who crossed over from CH&FC to Kandy received a steady flow of votes right along with Kandy SC. His closest rival Sanjeeva Jayasinghe also from Kandy SC received only 403 votes while CR&FC's Asanga Rodrigo was placed third with 310 votes.

In the final tally, for the popular team, Kandy SC received 1,233 votes. CR&FC (248) and CH&FC (169) securing the second and third places.

1. Kandy Sports Club 1,233, 2. CR&FC 248, 3. CH&FC 169, 4. Army Sports Club 139.

There were no winners either in the Most Popular Ruggerite Competition or in the Most Popular Team competition.
