Mercantile Badminton from Wednesday

BADMINTON: The Dulux Mercantile Open Badminton championship 2006 sponsored by the CIC Paints (Pvt) Ltd for the 8th consecutive year will be worked off from September 6 to 10 at the Royal College Sports complex and Sri Lanka Badminton Association Courts.

The tournament is consisted of eleven events as follows:

Men's Singles, Men's Doubles, Women's Singles, Women's Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Veterans Women's Singles (over 35), Veterans Women's Doubles (over 35), Veterans Men's Singles (over 40), Veterans women's Doubles (over 40), Masters Singles (over 50), Masters Doubles (over 50).

The championship will run on a knock out basis. Players will be allowed to take part in any number of events.

The team which collects the maximum points of the event will be awarded the overall challenge trophy donated by Hatton National Bank.

The Dulux and MBA challenge trophies will also be awarded to the winners with cash awards.

The runner-up will receive medals and certificates in addition to cash awards.

The opening matches will be played at the Royal College sports complex commencing at 4.00 p.m. while the last two day matches will be played at the Sri Lanka Badminton Association Courts.
