ICC invites Gwen to serve on panel
AWARD: The ICC woman of the year Annual Award will be held in
October, 2006 in India to recognise women's cricket on equal gender
basis.
The ICC Man of the year has been held at the annual award dinner to
recognise the outstanding achievements of cricketers and umpires. This
is yet another breakthrough for women's cricket globally.
The ICC International Women Cricketer of the year voting Academy has
invited Gwen Herat (of SLC/WC and WCASE) to serve on the panel with
other eminent and outstanding achievers of women's cricket that include
top sports journalists from around the world.
For Herat as well as for Sri Lanka, it is a major achievement for the
ICC to recognise the part Sri Lanka plays in the game. Herat who since
1997, has been steadily with determination pushing the game to
international level, is responsible for what it has achieved today.
Sri Lanka remain in the 6th slot at world ranking. She was a valued
and popular member of the International Women's Cricket Council until it
was dissolved in 2005 for Sri Lanka to merge with the ICC for which
Herat played a major role at the final IWCC Conference in South Africa
and successfully put Sri Lanka in the ICC/WC.
Yet another event for Sri Lanka will be when the ICC/WC holds their
Annual meet in Sri Lanka in April, 2007. |
