Ministry condemns mysterious abductions

COLOMBO: The Ministry of Defence, Public Security, Law & Order and the Media Centre for National Security condemned mysterious abduction of a journalist and an employee of a media institution.

The journalist and the media institution's employee were mysteriously abducted and released during the recent past. The Defence Ministry said it is believed that these actions could have been carried out to discredit the Government and tarnish the image of the Security Forces and Police.

The Security Forces do not get involved in such activities as harassment of media personnel is a blatant violation of human rights and threat to media freedom, the Ministry, said in a release.

The Ministry of Defence, Public Security, Law & Order requested the public to assist them in their investigations to unearth the truth behind these mysterious abductions.
