TNA MP slams US as terrorist

KOTTE: TNA Parliamentarian S.Elaventhan yesterday slammed the United States Government describing it as a “terrorist”.

“They are terrorists” he said while interrupting the speech of Media Minister Anura Priyadharshana Yapa during an Adjournment debate in Parliament on the North-East situation.

Minister Yapa praised the United States Government for taking action to arrest elements engaged in arms purchases for the LTTE.

Speaking during the TNA sponsored adjournment debate Minister Yapa said the Ceasefire agreement signed between Ranil Wickremesinghe and Prabhakaran was detrimental to the interest of the Security Forces.

He reiterated that President Mahinda Rajapaksa was committed to a negotiated settlement however adding that any legitimate Government cannot tolerate terrorism.

”The Government has not waged war.It was only taking defensive action when our forces are being attacked”.

He said the Government will at no stage abandon the tamil community adding that only less that 10 per cent of tamils were with the LTTE.
