Two sentenced to life for murder

COLOMBO: The Colombo High Court yesterday convicted two accused of a murder case to life imprisonment 20 after years after the incident occurred.

Colombo High Court Judge Upali Abeyratne sentenced Lakshman Rajakaruna and W. Nandalal Fernando to life imprisonment for committing the murder of L.D. Hemantha Perera.

According the charges Hemamtha Perera was murdered at Rohini Place, Dehiwela on December 19, 1986. Three persons were indicted for his murder. The case was heard in absentia of Lakshman Rajakaruna since he was absconding.

The Court observed that the prosecution could not prove the case against the third accused beyond reasonable doubt and released him.

Senior State Counsel Asad Navavi and Senior State Counsel Chethiya Gunasekara appeared for the prosecution.
