Third meeting of APRC today

COLOMBO: The All Party Representative Committee (APRC) set up to
formulate a constitutional framework to resolve the ethnic conflict will
meet today.
The Committee which convenes for the third time will continue its
deliberations on the stakeholders and their issues which is the first
item of the agenda, APRC Chairman Prof. Tissa Vitharana said.
"After agreeing on an agenda, the members representing different
political parties had initial discussions on the issues of the stake
holders during the previous meetings. We hope to continue these
discussions today," he said.
Prof. Vitharana said the Committee will move on to matters pertaining
to devolution of power after the initial discussions.
The three-point agenda of the Committee constitutes identifying the
stakeholders and their issues, examining matters regarding devolution
and discussing transitional arrangements.
The APRC was appointed at the sixth session of the All Party
Conference (APC) with representatives from different political parties
represented at the APC except the United National Party. |
