Programme to solve water problem

KAHAWA: Disaster Relief Services Ministry has launched a programme,
to solve the water problems in Hambantota and its suburbs.
The motive is to provide drinking water and cultivation development.
Hambantota and adjacent areas, such as Tissamaharama, Lunugamvehera,
Ambalantota and Sooriyawewa are draught bound causing hardships to its
residents.
The erection of rain water tanks, rain water lakes and cultivation
wells will be set up to store water, Ministry sources said.
These steps are taken on a premeditated Government plan to protect
people from draught, floods and natural disasters. The programme
initiated in the Hambantota district would be extended to other DS
divisions, islandwide based on the feasibility reports submitted by
Divisional Secretaries.
The Government has also provided sufficient tanks to store water for
people in Monaragala, Polonnaruwa, Ampara and Anuradhapura, sources
further revealed. |
