KURUNEGALA: The Ministry of Power and Energy has planned to introduce
a national energy conservation programme in order to prevent around 25
per cent energy waste in the country annually.
Minister of Power and Energy W.D.J. Seneviratne told the media
recently that the majority of the people in Sri Lanka were unaware of
the energy sources used to generate electricity.
As a result energy wastage had been going on unabated and an
appropriate alternative power to generate electricity was necessary.
He said that it was important to utilize modern electrical equipment
instead of obsolete ones and added that with the installation of modern
electrical equipment the CEB would be capable of streamlining the
electricity supply.
Minister Seneviratne also said that refrigerators and electric fans
consume more power. The time had come to nationalise electricity
consumption and it was a national duty by the people to reduce
electricity consumption by 5 percent to face the existing energy crisis. |
