Material aid to affected areas supplied

COLOMBO: The Ministry of Nation Building and Development, has
supplied all material aid required by the displaced people in the
Northeast within a few hours on the instructions of the President.
Director, Essential Services of the Ministry, Somapala Silva said the
Ministry had sent 45,000 food packets with each food packet containing
dry rations, 50,000 coconuts, and 5,000 packs of both infant and adult
milk powder to the areas of Muttur, Kantale, Serunuwara and Kinya for
the last few days.
"The Ministry had spent Rs. 38.57 million up to now," Silva said.
"The Ministry had made an allocation of Rs. 500,000 for each
Divisional Secretary in these areas," he said.
"We also distributed 10,000 plastic mats, plates and cups to Muttur
and Kantale," he said.
We also gave away some 1,250 roofing sheets to the affected
civillians to build temporary houses, he said.
"We are doing this on a daily basis until the situation returns to
normal, he said.
"The Ministry under its WFO programme, sends twenty lorries with
relief, including infant milk, coconuts, spices, dhal and other
essentials to thousands of displaced in Muttur and Kantale," he added
that the Ministry was prepared to face any emergency. |
