Lanka to apply NANO technology
COLOMBO: President Mahinda Rajapaksa totally agreed to establish a
NANO Technology Centre in Sri Lanka and apply NANO Technology in our
industries for which he will take steps to provide financial
allocations. This was following a recent discussion with eminent Sri
Lankan academics including Science and Technology Minister Professor
Tissa Vitharana.
Professor Vitharana, addressing the participants explained that the
NANO Technology which is a minute energy source is the most suitable
technology for Sri Lanka to improve its industrial productivity with
minimum cost and in the future this technology can be extended to
various other fields including medicine. Without introducing NANO
technology we will not be able to successfully meet the future
challenges in a competitive world, he said.
London Advanced Technology Institute's Head, Professor Ravi Silva
said countries like Cuba has achieved tremendous success in the field of
NANO technology in the modern world and that in the future it can be
applied to improve our medical field.
The academics who took part in the discussion urged the President to
take the lead to expand NANO technology in Sri Lanka.
Professor Gihan Amaratunga, Professor Sirimalie Fernando, Dr. Nobel
Jayasooriya, Professor Gamini Rajapaksa and Ministry Secretary S.
Ranugge were the other academics who took part in the discussion. |
