Tank renovation programme launched

KEKIRAWA: Renovation work of the Alankulama Wewa in Balukaranda in the Kekirawa electorate which was in a neglected state for the past 25 years was launched yesterday by S. M. Ranjith, Co-ordinating Secretary to the Minister of Agrarian Services and Farmer Community Development and Weerasena Gamage, Provincial Health Minister.

The renovation of this reservoir is part of the 10,000 tanks programme undertaken by the Government under the Mahinda Chintanaya.

The reservoir once rehabilitated will facilitate the cultivation of paddy on 50 acres of new land and the asveddumisation of 55 acres of paddy land which had remained fallow due to lack of water.
