Limited operation to free Mavil Aru and Virugal Aru
The Government said yesterday troops will carry
out a limited strategic operation to free Mavil Aru and Virugal Aru,
the two main water tanks that provide water to farmers of Seruwila
area in the Eastern province.

British High Commission officials yesterday
urged the LTTE to bring an end to killings, intimidation, acts of
violence and abductions. They raised these concerns during a meeting
with the LTTE leadership.

Finland and Denmark to withdraw ceasefire monitors from
September 1
Finland and Denmark, two of the five countries
to form the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission yesterday announced that
they would withdraw their ceasefire monitors from the Mission on
September 1 as the LTTE had failed to give them a security guarantee
to continue their work.
