Ten Lankans receive 'Asian Excellency' awards in New Delhi today
COLOMBO: Ten Sri Lankans who have rendered outstanding social
service in various fields will receive 'Asian Excellency' awards at a
ceremony held in New Delhi India on July 29 afternoon.
India's Union Minister of Information, Broadcasting and Parliamentary
Affairs Sri Priyaranjan Das will be the chief guest. Sri Lanka's
Minister of Vocational and Technical Training Piyasena Gamage will be a
guest of honour. President Mahinda Rajapaksa has sent a special
congratulatory message to the ceremony.
Among the 10 Sri Lankan award winners are Newton Gunaratne (Media),
Arjuna Ranatunga (Cricket), Mrs. Soma Edirisinghe (Social Service), Joe
Abeywickrama (Arts), Sumanadasa Abeygunawardena (Astrology) and DIG
Sirisena Herath (Public Service) said a communique issued by Devapriya
Abeysinghe, Additional Director General, Sri Lanka Rupavahini
Corporation.
The awards ceremony is jointly organised by the Sulahi International
Human Rights Organisation of Sri Lanka and the Sri Lanka JPs Human
Rights Organisation. |
