Only alternative to peace is peace

President Mahinda Rajapaksa said yesterday although all sincere attempts to bring the LTTE to the negotiating table had failed, the Government would persist in its efforts to prevail on the LTTE that the only alternative to peace is peace.

147 killed in Mumbai explosions

At least 147 people were killed and hundreds injured in seven bomb explosions on packed commuter trains and stations on Tuesday in Mumbai, India's financial hub, officials said. Government invests heavily on development in first quarter of 2006

The Government's capital expenditure has increased by 39 percent in the first quarter of the year. The total capital expenditure upto April this year was Rs. 51,966 million. This is mainly due to the accelerated development projects, which were launched by the Government during the last six months of the year.
