Italian delegation meets Southern Governor on village launch
GALLE: The Italian Government will provide funds for a village
for tsunami affected children which consists of preschool building,
swimming pool. A 12 member delegation from Italy arrived in Sri Lanka to
participate in the ground breaking ceremony.
The group had been in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka immediately
after the tsunami. They based in Unawatuna have supplied medical drugs,
food items, to the villages in Hikkaduwa, Unawatuna, Habaradhuwa, Matara,
Hambantota and also in Ampara in the North East. In the Southern
Province they built and restructured fully equipped 39 medical centres
from Balapitiya to Hambantota. Governor Kingsley T. Wickramaratne
organised a function to felicitate the President of their Provincial
Council Licia Canigola of the Ascoli Piceno Province, Italy.
Governor Kingsley T. Wickramaratne thanked the delegation, the G.U.S.
President Paolo Bernabucci, Viviana Giacomini Project Manager, Massimo
Di Pietro Field Coordinating Officer HSCV Marta Angeli Consultant
Architect for having assisted Sri Lanka in the rehabilitation programme
in building the lives of people effected by the tsunami. Certificates of
appreciation were presented in recognition of Volunteer Humanitarian
Services rendered by the GUS Relief Workers following the tsunami. |
