Army recovers claymore mines

JAFFNA: The troops have found two heavy claymore mines hidden in a bush in Neerweli - Jaffna around 3 p.m. yesterday. The mines each weighing 10kg were recovered by the army following a tip off they got from civilians in the area, an Army spokesperson said.

In another incident a soldier was killed yesterday around 3.25 a.m. in Eramperiyakulam - Vavuniya when the LTTE cadres opened fire at an Army checkpoint,the sources said. The army did not retaliate.

The LTTE cadres retreated after they fired at the Army point, he added.
