Increase in minimum wages for migrants

The Government is planning to increase foreign exchange earnings from the present 28 per cent to 30 per cent by the end of this year. Minister of Labour Relations and Foreign Employment, Athauda Seneviratne said foreign inward remittances in 2005 had been Rs. 62,164 million and in the first quarter of 2006 this has been Rs. 48,575 million.

New HRD plan for Inland Revenue Department

For the first time in Sri Lanka a Government department will introduce a Human Resource Development Unit. The Department of Inland Revenue hopes to enhance the efficiency and productivity of the staff under Asian Development Bank funding.
