Power surge to electrify country

The Government has launched a series of power projects to expand the country's electricity supply to reach 90 per cent of the population in its ambitious programme of "Electricity for All" by 2010.

Increase in minimum wages for migrants

The Government is planning to increase foreign exchange earnings from the present 28 per cent to 30 per cent by the end of this year. Minister of Labour Relations and Foreign Employment, Athauda Seneviratne said foreign inward remittances in 2005 had been Rs. 62,164 million and in the first quarter of 2006 this has been Rs. 48,575 million.
