TRINCOMALEE: An Anti-Personnel Mine has been used by the LTTE in
Trincomalee for the first time since the CFA was signed in 2002.
A soldier on road duty near Allers Garden in Trincomalee was
seriously injured when the Anti-Personnel Mine exploded.
The renewed use of Anti-Personnel Mines by the LTTE is particularly
disturbing given the extensive funding that international organisations
have provided the Tamil Rehabilitation Organisation (TRO) for de-mining
in the North-East. The TRO widely known as a front organisation of the
LTTE.
The organisations that have funded the TRO for de-mining projects
include Norwegian People's Aid, the Mines Advisory Group, Fondation
Suisse de Deminage and the Danish De-mining Group. |
