No vote without valid ID - Deputy Elections Commissioner

COLOMBO: The Deputy Commissioner of Elections W. P. Sumanasiri
confirmed that even if a person possesses a polling card without a valid
identity such as passport, driving licence, postal identity card will
not be permitted to cast their vote, as in the previous local election.
The certified finger mark would not be accepted as was done at the last
Local Government Election.
Responding the question on the fairness of the such a condition, he
added the eligible voters have been given enough time to apply and
obtain their identities.
A special process of issuing identity cards through Grama Seva
Niladari was implemented after the last local poll for the convenience
of the voters and no permission would be given to cast their vote in any
case at this time, the Deputy Commissioner detailed. |
