JVP seeks Ranil's clarification over LTTE's claims
COLOMBO:JVP Parliamentary Group Leader and Propaganda Secretary Wimal
Weerawansa in a letter to UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday
requested him to elucidate the LTTE political wing leader S.P.
Thamilselvam's recent claims that the LTTE is entitled to exercise
rights over the air space, ground and the sea adjacent to their
so-called homeland according to the Ceasefire Agreement.
Secondly, Weerawansa's letter sought Wickremesinghe's clarification
about a statement purported to have been made by him in the USA
addressing Sri Lankan expatriates that the Government is bound to disarm
the paramilitary groups as agreed in Geneva and that the present crisis
is a sequel to Government's failure to fulfil that pledge.
The letter said that these two questions are posed to him not with an
intention of causing him any political embarrassment, but genuinely
because of the issues are crucial to the country's interests as far as
the Ceasefire Agreement is concerned.
That Agreement was signed by Wickremesinghe on February 22, 2002, and
therefore the people at large are keen to understand his stance on these
two important issues, the letter said. |
