Seethawaka Pradeshiya Sabha: Interim Order on polls chief

COLOMBO: The Court of Appeal yesterday issued an Interim Order on the Commissioner of Elections restraining him from holding the Local Government elections to elect members to the Seethawaka Pradeshiya Sabha until the final determination of the application before court.

The Bench comprised Justice K. Sripavan and Justice Sisira de Abrew. The Court of Appeal order further restrained the implementation of the decision of the returning officer rejecting the nomination papers filed by the United National Party.

The court issued an Interim Order returnable on March 13.

Petitioner N.V.K.K. Veragoda, General Secretary, United National Party cited the Commissioner of Elections, the Attorney General and eight others as respondents.

President's Counsel Srinath Perera with Buddhika Wickremanayake supported the application.
