Hones skills of construction workforce

COLOMBO: An accelerated training project for upgrading skills of constructions related workforce has been launched by the SLRCS. The objective of the project is to improve the household economy of the tsunami affected families and overall well-being of them. As a result of employment opportunities, family members engaged in the construction sector will have better prospects.

A total number of 1375 semi-skilled construction workers in Kalutara, Galle and Matara will be trained on 53 separate seven-day courses in tiling, wall painting, landscaping, carpentry, and aluminium fabrication. SLRCS provides with relatively valuable tool kits to the trainees following successful completion of the course.

164 participants have completed training so far and they are expected to find income. The assisted beneficiaries are closely monitored, maintaining close link until their livelihood become feasible and sustainable while providing any further assistance as required.
