Childcare, full responsibility of a woman

COLOMBO: The International Women's Day, emphasising the theme of ensuring security to women commemorated today is an important event to the women world over, said First Lady Shiranthi Rajapakse in a special message to mark the International Women's Day.

It is on this day that women speak of Women's Rights and Security and the dignity of womanhood. Similarly the other most important subject that we discuss today is the Woman's Independence. Independence in that sense means full responsibility.

As a mother who commemorates the International Women's Day I mean childcare as the full responsibility of a woman. In the modern world, the dignity of bearing children, and bringing them up as healthy and worthy citizens and giving them a sound education is in the hands of the woman.

I am also aware that thousands of mothers in this country are in a massive cause of sacrifice to fulfil this obligation.

Their sacrifice towards this end opens a wide door for her to enter the social independence. That is the roadway open towards a safe and honourable society, stated the First Lady's message.
