India thrash Sri Lanka by eight wickets
MOHALI, India, Friday (Reuters) - Left arm paceman Irfan Pathan
inspired India to a comfortable eight wicket win over Sri Lanka in the
second one-day international on Friday with a lethal spell on his 21st
birthday.
Pathan took four for 37 as Sri Lanka succumbed for 122 in 35.4 overs
after India had opted to field first in the day-night clash. Sachin
Tendulkar then struck an unbeaten 70 in India's 126 for two which gave
the hosts a 2-0 lead in the seven-match series.
None of the Sri Lanka batsmen reached 50 for the second consecutive
game with vice-captain Kumar Sangakkara, promoted to opener, top-scoring
with 27.
Off spinner Harbhajan Singh took two for 19 and all rounder Jai
Prakash Yadav two for 32.
Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag (38) put on 80 for the first wicket
from just 9.4 overs as India reached their traget in 20.2 overs. India
won the opoening match in Nagpur last Tuesday by 152 runs. The third
match will be played in Jaipur on Monday.
