Haukland meets Thamilselvan:
Upholding ceasefire during polls discussed

SRI LANKA Monitoring Mission (SLMM) Chief Hagrup Haukland had
discussions with the LTTE's political wing leader S.P. Thamilselvan on
upholding the ceasefire during the November polls and strengthening it
further in the future.
Haukland met Thamilselvan at the LTTE's Peace Secretariat in
Kilinochchi yesterday.
The meeting lasted for nearly two hours where the SLMM chief also
urged the LTTE to expedite the release of the three policemen in LTTE
custody.
During the discussion between Thamilselvan and the SLMM chief, the
issue of on-going killings in the North and East was discussed
extensively. The SLMM chief has pointed out the necessity of maintaining
the ceasefire agreement during the Presidential polls, sources said.
Thamilselvan responding to the SLMM chief told him of the threats the
LTTE faces from para military outfits in the cleared areas in the North
and East, sources said. |
