Kiwis 49/0 in one hour of play

Only one hour's of play was possible due to bad weather on the opening day of the third and final 4 day unofficial test match between the touring New Zealand 'A' team and Sri Lanka 'A' team which began at the P. Saravanamuttu Stadium yesterday.

New Zealand 'A' who were put into bat after the start of play was delayed until 1.45 p.m due to overnight rain reachd 49 for no loss before a heavy shower once again put an end to the day's proceedings at around 2.43 p.m.

Sri Lanka 'A' who are trailing 0-1 in the series failed to get an early break through with the New Zealand openers Michael Papps and Jimmy How making steady progress against a new look pace attack.

Sri Lanka 'A' were forced to make some changes to their side with fast bowler Nuwan Soysa and batsman Upul Tharanga joining the senior team for the tour of India while wicket keeper Prasanna Jayawardena is scheduled to compete in the Hong Kong Sixes tournament this weekend.

Sri Lanka youth cap Gihan de Silva took over the duties behind the stumps with Tharanga Lakshitha and Pradeep Jayaprakash sharing the new ball. Sri Lanka 'A' also brought in all rounder Chanaka Kapugedera and spinner Rangana Herath.
