Kollupitiya Police Station bomb blast:

CID hunts persons assisting suspect
 

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) probing the Kollupitiya Police Station bomb blast told Colombo Fort Magistrate and Additional District Judge Namal Balalla that a special CID team had been deployed to trace the persons involved in bringing the LTTE suspect to Colombo.

On an application by the CID, suspect Sathyaseelan Selvakumar (29) of Jaffna, the woman accomplice of the LTTE woman suicide bomber who committed suicide at the Kollupitiya Police station premises was further remanded till November 2. The suspect was not produced before court for security reasons.

The CID investigating the bomb blast told court that they had sought the Attorney General's advice in respect of the suspect now in remand custody.

The CID took over the investigations into the LTTE suicide bomb attack at the Kollupitiya Police station, on July 7, 2004 where four police personnel and the LTTE woman suicide bomber were killed. The Inspector M.H.D. Ekanayake, Sergeant Attygala and two Reserve Police Constables Liyanage and Chandra Jayantha were killed by the bomb attack.

Investigations also revealed that the LTTE woman suicide bomber had been assigned to assassinate Eelam People's Democratic Party (EPDP) Leader Douglas Devananda.

The woman accomplice was arrested by a team of officers attached to the Special Task Force (STF) immediately after the incident. Investigators had also discovered the national identity cards found with the woman suicide bomber and her accomplice were forged documents.
