Bank Union lauds President, Premier for permitting recruitments

The Ceylon Bank Employees Union has thanked President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga and Premier Mahinda Rajapakse for permitting authorities of the Bank of Ceylon to recruit new personnel to the bank and to open new branches.

The Bank of Ceylon had already recruited 600 new personnel to the bank. The bank is to recruit another 400 shortly.

"These steps were taken following a request of the CEBU (Ceylon Bank Employees Union), to recruit 1,000 new employees to the bank and to open new branches," said Secretary of the CEBU, Ratnasiri Kalupahana.

Also, the steps had been taken to appoint some 250 clerks whose letters of appointments had been suspended during the UNP regime, following this decision by the President and the Premier, said the Union's Secretary.

Kalupahana also said that they made every effort to get these 250 appointments approved by the UNP during their office, but these were ignored.

"The UNP regime did not give any government job to anyone under the tenure of Ranil Wickremesinghe.

How can a government that was unable to take a decision to approve 250 appointments ,be so generous as to offer two hundred thousand jobs," he asked.
