Schools, Mercantile, Colombo in Cager semis

SRI LANKA Schools BA, Mercantile BA and Colombo DBA qualified for the last four of the Senior women's basketball nationals conducted by the Sri Lanka Basketball Federation at the Depot Police courts ysterday.

Sri Lanka Schools followed up their massive 109-32 victory over Sri Lanka Air Force on Saturday with a 49-32 win against Colombo to head Group A. They will meet the runner-up of Group B in today's semi-final at 4 p.m.

Mercantile who headed Group B will play Group A runner-up Colombo in the other semi-final also scheduled for today.

In the other matches Kegalle DBA beat Galle DBA 65-15 after leading 37-4 at half time and Mercantile BA beat Galle DBA 75-18 after leading 50-9 at half time. The finals will take place on Tuesday.

Gampaha District in major upset

Gampaha District BA team created a major upset when they beat the more fancied Batticaloa District BA team 96-68 in their senior national men's basketball tournament match played at the Depot Police courts, Bambalapitiya yesterday.

The winners led 41-30 at half time. However the Jaffna District BA team put up fine performance as they defeated Kurunegala District BA 77-68 after trailing 39-42 at half time. In contrast Mercantile BA cruised to an easy 40-26 win over Kegalle DBA after leading 18-14 at half time.
