SSC in 48-run win over NCC

SSC defeated their arch rivals NCC by 48 runs on a faster scoring rate in their sixth annual limited overs cricket encounter played for the J. R. Jayewardena memorial trophy at the NCC grounds, Maitland Place yesterday.

SSC scored 258 for 9 from their 50 overs and NCC were struggling at 164 for 7 when rain and bad light brought an end to the game in 34th over.

Thilan Samaraweera of SSC who made 81 was named best batsman and man of the final. Akalanka Ganegama of NCC was picked as the best bowler and Kaushal Silva of SSC was named best fielder.

SSC: 258 for 9 in 50 overs (Avishka Gunawardena 53, Thilan Samaraweera 81, Jeewan Mendis 43 n.o, Nuwan Soysa 20, Thilina Thushara 2 for 53, Akalanka Ganegama 2 for 34).

NCC: 164 for 7 in 33.3 overs (Upul Tharanga 43, Upul Chandana 42 n.o, Chaminda Vidanapathirana 3 for 46, Charith Jayaweera 2 for 29).
