Food and Nutrition symposium

THIRD Food and Nutrition symposium organised by the Applied Nutrition Department of Wayamba University will be held on September 13 at the University premises, Makandura being the University Vice Chancellor the chief guest.

This annual symposium comprises scientific presentation on the latest research works carried out by the students in the field of food and nutrition, covering different areas such as prevalence of nutrient deficiencies in community, nutritional status of risk groups, dietary and behaviourial risk factors of coronary heart diseases and dietary management of diseases Dr. Abera Bekele, UNICEF early childhood programme head will deliver the keynote address on "Early Childhood Development; Global trends and application in Sri Lanka".

"The Applied Nutrition Department conducts the only B.Sc degree programme in nutrition field and hopes to strengthen the links with other government, non-government and private organisations involved in the field through this symposium," says Dr. Renuka Silva, the Department Head.

BSc programme in Nutrition is conducted only by the Applied Nutrition Department, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka.
