Dhanapala tells international community:

Stronger action needed to tame Tigers

THE top Sri Lankan official involved in peace talks expressed frustration on Thursday at the LTTE rejection of the Colombo airport as the site for negotiations. Peace Secretariat Chief Jayantha Dhanapala said the LTTE was dodging resumption of the talks until after Presidential Elections, due by November 22.

WHO rules out health hazards in Sri Lanka
 

THE World Health Organisation said Thursday that tsunami-hit Sri Lanka is safe for tourists and that the disaster had not created any health hazards. "The tourists should come, they should not worry because all health measures have been taken," Luis Perez, Southeast Asia's regional adviser for the WHO told reporters in Colombo.

Presidential Film Awards

Jayantha Chandrasiri receives the Best Director’s Award for his film Agnidahaya from President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga at the President’s House yesterday. The Presidential Film Awards Ceremony in respect of 2001, 2002 and 2003 was held at President’s House yesterday under the President’s patronage. The Presidential Film Awards 2004 ceremony was held at the BMICH, Colombo recently and it was announced there that awards ceremonies for 2001, 2002 and 2003 would be held on a future date. A total of 66 awards were presented at the ceremony which included 23 awards for 2001, 24 awards for 2002 and 23 for 2003.
