Pope appoints Archbishop as Synodal Father
HIS Holiness Pope Bendict XVI, has appointed His Grace Rt. Rev. Dr.
Oswald Thomas Colmon Gomis, Archbishop of Colombo as Synodal Father to
the XI Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops to be held from
October 2 to October 23, a release from Apostolic Nunciature said.
The release adds: "The Apostolic Nunciature in Sri Lanka informs that
the Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI has appointed His Grace Most Reverend
Oswald Thomas Colman Gomis, Archbishop of Colombo, Secretary General of
the Asian Bishops' Conferences (FABC), as Synodal Father to the XI
Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops which will take place
from 2nd until 23rd October 2005.
In conformity with the prescribed norms, the Catholic Bishops'
Conference of Sri Lanka has elected as their delegate to the same
Ordinary General Assembly, His Excellency Rt. Rev. Dr. Thomas
Savundaranayagam, Bishop of Jaffna.
The Synodal Assembly concludes the Eucharistic year. |
