Colombo Dockyard delivers two aluminium crew boats to Saudi Arabia

Colombo Dockyard Ltd, (CDL) delivered two 33.5 m Crew Boats to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on August 15, 2005, for the first time. The client (Zamil Operations and Maintenance Company Limited) a world renowned company based in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, intends to use these Boats in the Offshore Oil Fields of Saudi Arabia, to transport Crew and Goods from Shore to Offshore Installations.

The Crew Boat 33.5 metre in length is of all aluminium construction and is fitted out with two Caterpillar main engines driving two conventional Fixed Pitch Propellers, achieving speeds in excess of 18 knots. 30 'airline style' seating arrangements for the comfort of the travelling Crew and ergonomically designed living quarters for 8 Boat Crew with Mess, Galley and Toilets has been provided.

With a fuel capacity of 40,000 litres and a fresh water capacity of 12,000 litres, the Crew Boat has an endurance of in excess of 700 nm and her crew is capable of operating at sea for extended periods. The boat is highly maneuverable while working close to offshore installations and within harbour premises.

In order to provide for Owners operating practices and requirements, the wheelhouse is installed with an additional Aft Control Station to ease maneuvering operations. The Crew Boat including all its material, machinery, equipment, piping, workmanship etc.. are built in accordance with the requirements of the Classification Society (American Bureau of Shipping) and also meeting State of Bahrain flag state requirements.

Some salient features of the Crew Boat are Length are 33.5 metres, Beam6.8 metres, Depth 3.7 metres, Draft 2.3 metres, Fuel Oil carrying capacity 40,000 litres, Fresh Water carrying capacity 12,000 litres, Passenger carrying capacity 30 persons, Sleeping Accommodation for Crew of 8 Persons and Speed 18 knots. American Bureau of Shipping + A1 HSC E classification has been awarded for this.

Colombo Dockyard Limited operating in collaboration with Onomichi Dockyard Co. Ltd. Japan, has strengthened its position as a versatile specialised work boat builder in the international market. This year CDL has been successful in securing an order for 3 Tugboats also to another Middle East client to be delivered over the year 2006.
