Govt seeks urgent talks with LTTE

PRESIDENT Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga yesterday wrote to Norwegian Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik, seeking immediate talks with the LTTE to review the Ceasefire Agreement (CFA) in the wake of Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar's assassination.

Emergency Regulations approved

 THE Emergency Regulations were approved at a special session of Parliament yesterday for a further period of one month by a majority of 103 votes. Government, UNP, JHU, JVP and SLMC rebel group Members voted for the extension of the Emergency (124 votes) while the TNA, UPF and the UNP's Mano Ganeshan voted against (21 votes).
