Union Assurance sponsors Windies Test tour of Sri Lanka

It's that time of the year when the attention of the cricket loving public of Sri Lanka turns towards a new series that is about to start. The Calypso Kings from the Caribbean are here to take on the Lions of Sri Lanka and there will be no quarter asked or given as battle will be joined in a double-header Test Series.

The Windies are here on a 2 Test Series tour with the Tirangular One Day Series tagged on at the end with India as the third team. The tour started with a warm-up game on the 9th and 10th of July in Colombo with the first Test to be played from the 13th to the 17th of July at the Sinhalese Sports Club Grounds (SSC) in Colombo.

The Second Test will commence after a 3-day break and will be played from the 21st to the 25th of July at the Asgiriya International Stadium up in Kandy. The cricket loving Sri Lankan public will be given the opportunity to witness a Test series on home soil after a long time and this series will be the first opportunity for new coach Tom Moody to flex his coaching muscles as well.

He said that with several of the Union Assurance team members having played cricket at the highest level, UAL has long fostered the cause of cricket in Sri Lanka. "We have come forward as principal sponsor for the test series precisely because the qualities inherent in being a successful professional cricket team are the selfsame qualities that inspire us at Union Assurance," he added. he warned that the Test series is predicted to be extremely competitive and that Sri Lankans will be at full strength with the return of Murali to the fold after a long lay off due to injury.
