Four LTTErs shot dead in Trincomalee

Four LTTE cadres were shot dead and two others were critically injured at Selvanayagapuram, Trincomalee yesterday.

The unidentified gunmen who arrived in a van around 10.30 am to the LTTE office in a farm in Selvanayagapuram, fired with automatic weapons killing three cadres and injuring another who died later. The gunmen had fled after the attacks, sources said.

Meanwhile, SLMM Chief Hagrup Haukland told the Daily News that in recent weeks shooting incidents have increased in the Eastern Province despite the SLMM's efforts to put the situation under control.

According to the SLMM, there were around 10 shooting incidents last week including the killing of two police intelligence officials.

"The SLMM has 22 monitors in the Eastern Province covering the areas of Batticaloa, Trincomalee and Ampara. Despite the round the clock monitoring in the East, the gunmen have posed a challenge to the SLMM in maintaining a trouble free situation," Haukland said. SLMM and police have launched investigations into the killing of LTTE cadres in Selvanayagapuram, Trincomalee yesterday.
