Deputy Minister funds electricity to labour lines

Deputy Minister of Finance and Kegalle District UPFA MP Ranjith Siyambalapitiya has allocated Rs. 425,000 for supply of electricity to labour lines at Mawatenne division of Udapola Group, Deraniyagala.

On the invitation of the workers the Deputy Minister will inaugurate the scheme on 21st July, 2005.

Siyambalapitiya said, he had allocated funds from the decentralised budget to provide electricity to other labour lines in Estates and villages in the Deraniyagala Electorate on a request made by SLFP organisations in the areas.

According to the Deputy Minister many labour lines in Deraniyagala will be provided electricity in the near future, enabling workers, school going children to study with lighting provided by electricity. He said that the President's desire is to provide electricity to all backward estates and villages in the near future.

Help Danushkanth

S. Danushkanth, eight months, is suffering from congenital heart disease. He has been recommended to undergo a surgery at the Sri Jayawardenapura General Hospital by Cardio Thoracic Surgeon Dr. Aruna Kapuruge.

The surgery is estimated to cost Rs. 350,000.

The President's Fund has agreed to give Rs. 115,000. Danushkanth's father Sri Kantha who is a labourer is unable to raise the balance money.

He requested philanthropists and the public to send contributions to expedite the surgery.

All contributions should be remitted to Account No. Singithi Savings Account, Hatton National Bank, Kandy. A/C No. 018-085709-SSA.

Cooperative Pharmacies in Central Province

Arrangements were being made to establish Cooperative Pharmacies in the Central Province with the objective of paving the way for patients of poor families in the province to get their herbal medicinal requirements free of charge, said Central Province Governor Monty Gopallawa.

The scheme has been mooted by Central Provincial Minister of Power and Energy, Highways and Cooperatives Ediriweera Weerawardhana.

Gopallawa was speaking at the ceremonial opening of the first Cooperative Osusala at Yatinuwara Veediya, Kandy.

He said larger number of people fell sick here for various reasons.

"When the poor people fell sick and went for treatment, they were subjected to various difficulties. The new project has been planned to enable those poor patients obtain medical treatment," Gopallawa said.
