Murder accused sentenced to death

The accused in the Horana Meegalawa murder case found guilty of
committing murder was sentenced to death by the Panadura Provincial High
Court Judge Rohini Walgama on Friday. The accused was a disabled person.
The accused Gallage Don Premathilake alias Ralahamy of Migalewa,
Horana was indicted of committing the death of Gallage Don Pushpakumara
of Boloya on 28th March 1991 at Meegalawa by shooting.
According to the evidence of the prosecution the deceased had
murdered a brother of the accused a few years ago. In revenge, the
accused took a galkatas and went to the house of the deceased and shot
him to death.
The Judge before passing the death sentence asked the accused whether
he had anything to say about the death sentence.
The accused said he was serving a sentence of 15 years RI as he was
found guilty of an attempted murder case and another sentence is highly
appreciated.
The Judge said the case against the accused has been proved beyond
reasonable doubt and he passed the death sentence on the accused.
State Counsel Dileepa Peiris led prosecution. The accused smiled and
walked to the court cell when the death sentence was passed. |
